About Me
My name is Nathan Dunton and I have been an Alaskan commercial fisherman since 1998. In 2018, after working as a crewmember for many years, I purchased my own boat and commercial salmon permit for the Copper River and Prince William Sound drift net fishery. When I’m not fishing, I live with my family in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
About the Salmon
I caught this delicious sockeye salmon on the Copper River delta. The Copper River watershed is undeveloped and has rigorous environmental protections. Salmon must travel many miles upstream into a fast-moving current and therefore must have robust fat and energy stores to make the journey. This is why many international chefs and salmon connoisseurs believe that Copper River salmon is the best tasting and most nutritious salmon in the world.
After salmon are caught in my net, I bring each one aboard one at a time. This allows for immediate bleeding from the gill plate and delicate handling. After each salmon is bled, it is immediately submerged in slush ice. I then transport my salmon back to Cordova where it is professionally filleted, de-boned and vacuum sealed by a small processor called Sixty Degrees North. Once the salmon is processed, I ship the finished product to New Mexico then hand deliver it to you!
